MindsEye

MindsEye

I'm gonna be lazy and just copy-paste my review from Steam, but include screenshots at the end so you can bask at the glory that is MindsEye.

This game is terrible, it really is. You should absolutely not pay full price for it, but at a huge sale, and if you like janky bad games, I recommend it.

Yes it is stupidly simple and does not have anything unique to it at all, it's basically just a Unreal Engine 3rd person template + a nice HUD slapped onto it (though I'm pretty sure it's some asset you can buy, it looked familiar). But its missions are easy enough and the story is... whatever it is... it's interesting enough that you keep going for the trickle of dopamine hits. It's prime brainrot.

Performance is also hillariously bad. Even with a decent computer I would frequently go into 40 FPS, and even cutscenes, that are locked 30 FPS, would dip. Gigantic frametime spikes all over the place. It reminded me a lot of Cyberpunk 1.00 on PS4 (which I also loved).

A lot of things are pretty buggy also. One particularily annoying and very low hanging fruit bug is that you need to go into settings everytime you open the game to re-activate your frame rate limit (ie move the slider 60 -> 59 -> 60). Even game school students are capable of fixing that.

TLDR: It's a game with the depth of a PS2 tech demo, the performance of an early PS3 port, and the visuals of a typical UE5 game. It's a damn mess, I love it.
